Choose the right product

Choose your sleeper by finish, size and length.

Many residential walls use a 200 x 75mm or 200 x 80mm sleeper. The thickness you choose sets the post series, and the length sets your post spacing. Not sure of the quantity? Use the calculator, or contact us and we will assist.

Sleeper size, reinforcement and wall height must suit your wall design, because the stability of the wall depends on it. In Queensland, walls over 1m high, or walls carrying a load, generally need an engineer's design and council approval.

Are concrete sleepers better than timber sleepers?

Timber sleepers usually cost less to buy, but timber can rot and attract termites. Concrete sleepers are steel reinforced, so they stay strong and durable for years in the ground and in the weather. For most people building a wall to last, concrete is the cost effective option over time.

What size concrete sleepers do I need?

Standard sleepers are 200mm high, in 75mm, 80mm or 100mm thickness, and 1.6m, 2.0m or 2.4m long. Wall height sets how many rows you need: a 1m wall is five sleepers high. Keep in mind that taller walls may need thicker sleepers or extra reinforcement, as required by your wall design.

How many sleepers and posts do I need?

Work out the quantity from the length and height of your wall, then add one post for every sleeper join and one for each end. Our retaining wall calculator will provide a full list, which you can view and send to us as a quote request.

Can I use concrete sleepers for boundary walls and fences?

Yes. Concrete sleepers suit boundary walls, and a fence can be built on top using fence brackets on the steel posts. A fence adds load to the wall, so it is essential to have the wall designed for it.

What colours and finishes can I choose?

Plain sleepers come in grey and charcoal. Patterned sleepers offer stone and timber-look finishes. Colours vary a little between batches, so order the full quantity for your project at the one time.

How are concrete sleepers delivered, and how long do they take?

Delivery is by truck to your site across South East Queensland. Lead times vary with stock, and we confirm the time and cost of delivery on your quote. Delivery and pick up options are shown on each product.

Is installation a DIY job?

Many people with some building experience install a low wall themselves. Sleepers slot between steel posts set in concrete, which gives great ease of installation and a clean finish. Each sleeper is heavy, so plan for safety with one person at each end or a machine. Walls over 1m high generally need an engineer's design.
