Concrete sleepers Redlands: what local sites need
The Redlands is named for its red volcanic soil, and many blocks in Redland Bay, Thornlands and Mount Cotton slope towards the bay. Coastal weather and summer storms put a lot of water through that soil.
Good drainage behind the wall is what keeps that water from building up against the sleepers.
Sleeper sizes and finishes delivered to the Redlands
- Lengths: common lengths are 1.6 m, 2.0 m and 2.4 m. The length sets how far apart your posts are.
- Thickness: 75 mm and 80 mm for most residential walls, 100 mm for heavier-duty and taller walls. The thickness sets which post series you need.
- Reinforcing: steel reinforced, with two or three steel bars depending on the product and the wall design.
- Finishes: plain concrete sleepers with a smooth face, or patterned concrete sleepers with a stone or timber look.
- Colours: plain grey is standard, with charcoal and other colours listed on each product.
Posts, drainage and accessories on the same order
Sleepers are one part of the wall. Add galvanised retaining wall posts in H, C and corner profiles, retaining wall drainage for behind the wall, and accessories such as fence brackets and post caps. Ordering them together means one delivery.
Delivery to the Redlands
We deliver concrete sleepers to Cleveland, Capalaba, Redland Bay, Victoria Point, Thornlands, Wellington Point and Alexandra Hills and the surrounding suburbs. Sleepers are heavy and come by truck. We deliver to the Redlands mainland. Ask us before you order for the bay islands, as barge freight is quoted separately.
Concrete sleepers are usually delivered in 2–10 business days and steel posts in 1–5. We confirm the date with you before you pay.
Working out how many sleepers you need
Use the retaining wall calculator. Enter the length and height of each run, choose a sleeper length, and it lists the sleepers, posts and drainage for the wall. Add the list to your cart and send it as a quote.
We supply retaining wall materials across the Redlands and the wider Moreton Bay region from manufacturers in Brisbane, including:
- Cleveland, Ormiston, Wellington Point and Birkdale
- Capalaba, Alexandra Hills and Thornlands
- Victoria Point, Redland Bay and Mount Cotton
Speak to us before ordering large volumes if you're unsure whether your suburb is in or out of our standard freight zone.
How much does a concrete sleeper retaining wall cost in the Redlands?
As a 2026 guide, a professionally installed concrete sleeper retaining wall in the Redlands typically costs $300–$550 per square metre of wall face (incl. GST) for walls up to 1 m high on sites with good access. At 1 m high, that's roughly the same per lineal metre. Walls over 1 m need engineering and building approval in Queensland and typically cost $400–$700 per square metre, plus around $1,000–$2,500 or more for engineering design, certification and approval.
Materials alone (sleepers, steel posts, footing concrete and drainage) run about $180–$250 per square metre for a 1 m wall from our range, before freight. Rock, reactive clay, tight access, demolition of an old wall, spoil removal, surcharge loads such as driveways, and decorative finishes all push the price up. Figures are indicative only, so get written quotes from QBCC-licensed builders. Send us your wall length, height and suburb for an itemised materials and freight quote.
Do you deliver concrete sleepers to the Redlands?
Yes. We deliver to Cleveland, Capalaba, Redland Bay, Victoria Point, Thornlands, Wellington Point and Alexandra Hills and nearby suburbs. Freight is priced to your delivery suburb, and we confirm the delivery date with you before you pay.
How long does delivery to the Redlands take?
Concrete sleepers are usually delivered in 2–10 business days and steel posts in 1–5. We confirm the date with you before you pay.
Do I need council approval for a retaining wall in the Redlands?
In the Redland City Council area, as elsewhere in Queensland, a wall over 1m high, or one carrying a load such as a driveway, fence or building, generally needs an engineer's design and building approval. Rules vary, so check with the council or a building certifier before you order.
What else do I need with concrete sleepers?
Steel posts to hold the sleepers, and drainage behind the wall: slotted pipe, geofabric and gravel. Fence brackets and post caps are optional. The retaining wall calculator lists the quantities for your wall.
Can I pick up concrete sleepers?
Delivery to site is standard. Pick up is offered on some products, and it is shown on the product where it applies. Ask us before you plan to collect.
