Retaining walls Gold Coast: materials and delivery

If you are searching for retaining walls on the Gold Coast, you are probably pricing a wall or about to build one. We are the supply side of that job: the sleepers, posts and drainage, on one order, with freight worked out to your suburb.

  • Homeowners: a materials list and a delivered price to compare against a builder's quote, or to build a low wall yourself.
  • Builders and landscapers: one order for the whole wall, with the delivery date confirmed before you pay.
  • Not included: we do not build walls, design them or arrange installers.

Building retaining walls on Gold Coast sites

The Gold Coast runs from flat, sandy beachside and canal suburbs to steep hinterland blocks, with fast growing cut and fill estates in the north. Each kind of site asks something different of a wall.

Beachside and canal blocks

Sandy soils drain well but hold less, and salt air is hard on steel. Hot dip galvanised posts are the standard for these sites.

Hinterland slopes

Mudgeeraba, Tallebudgera and Currumbin Valley have steep blocks and heavy rain. Walls here are often taller and usually need an engineer's design.

Northern growth estates

Coomera, Pimpama and Ormeau are mostly cut and fill blocks, with boundary walls and a fence on top.

The concrete sleeper wall system

A concrete sleeper wall is made of two parts. Steel posts are set in concrete in the ground, and steel reinforced concrete sleepers slot between them, one row on top of the next.

  • Sleepers: plain or patterned, in lengths of 1.6 m, 2.0 m and 2.4 m.
  • Posts: retaining wall posts in H, C and corner profiles, sized to the sleeper thickness and the height of the wall.
  • Finishing: accessories such as post caps, edge capping and fence brackets.

Drainage for Gold Coast rain

Summer storms on the Gold Coast can put a great deal of water behind a wall in a short time. Water that cannot drain adds weight and pressure, and it is the most common reason walls fail.

Every wall needs slotted pipe at the base, geofabric to keep soil out, and a band of drainage gravel behind the sleepers, with an outlet that carries the water away.

How to order materials for your wall

  1. Measure the wall. Note the length and height of each run, and anything the wall will carry, such as a fence or driveway.
  2. Build your list. The retaining wall calculator turns those measurements into sleepers, posts and drainage.
  3. Send it as a quote. Add the list to your cart and send it to us with your delivery suburb.
  4. We confirm freight and the date. You see the delivered price and the delivery date before you pay.
  5. Delivery to site. Canal blocks, hinterland driveways and busy beachside streets each need a different truck. Tell us about access when you order.

Approval and engineering on the Gold Coast

In the City of Gold Coast area, as elsewhere in Queensland, a wall over 1m high, or one carrying a load such as a driveway, fence or building, generally needs an engineer's design and building approval. Rules vary, so check with the council or a building certifier before you order.

We can pass on the supplier's engineering for the sleepers and posts you choose, for your engineer or certifier to check. We do not design walls or issue certificates.

Check delivery coverage

We supply concrete sleepers across the broader Gold Coast region and well beyond - not just one suburb. Our delivery network covers:

  • South Brisbane and Logan corridor: suburbs like Springwood, Shailer Park, Daisy Hill, Logan Reserve and Ormeau Hills, commonly serviced for sleeper supply.
  • Gold Coast coastal and suburban areas: Coomera, Pimpama, Helensvale, Southport, Hope Island, Nerang, Robina, Varsity Lakes, Reedy Creek, Burleigh Heads and surrounding estates.
  • Gold Coast hinterland and acreage: Mudgeeraba, Advancetown, Tamborine Mountain, Canungra and Tallebudgera Valley, where sloped blocks make retaining walls essential.
  • Northern NSW: Tweed Heads, Kingscliff, Pottsville, Byron Bay, Lennox Head, Ballina and surrounding villages.

Central, easily accessed suburbs usually fall under standard freight pricing. Remote, steep or cross-border deliveries are priced POA due to access constraints and distance. If you're unsure whether your suburb is standard or POA, call with your postcode and we'll confirm delivery options immediately.

How much does a concrete sleeper retaining wall cost on the Gold Coast?

As a 2026 guide, a professionally installed concrete sleeper retaining wall on the Gold Coast typically costs $300–$550 per square metre of wall face (incl. GST) for walls up to 1 m high on sites with good access. At 1 m high, that's roughly the same per lineal metre. Walls over 1 m need engineering and building approval in Queensland and typically cost $400–$700 per square metre, plus around $1,000–$2,500 or more for engineering design, certification and approval.

Materials alone (sleepers, steel posts, footing concrete and drainage) run about $180–$250 per square metre for a 1 m wall from our range, before freight. Rock, reactive clay, tight access, demolition of an old wall, spoil removal, surcharge loads such as driveways, and decorative finishes all push the price up. Figures are indicative only, so get written quotes from QBCC-licensed builders. Send us your wall length, height and suburb for an itemised materials and freight quote.

Do you build retaining walls on the Gold Coast?

No. We supply the materials: concrete sleepers, steel posts, drainage and accessories. Your builder or landscaper installs them, or you can build a low wall yourself.

Concrete sleepers are usually delivered in 2–10 business days and steel posts in 1–5. We confirm the date with you before you pay.

Do I need approval for a retaining wall on the Gold Coast?

In the City of Gold Coast area, as elsewhere in Queensland, a wall over 1m high, or one carrying a load such as a driveway, fence or building, generally needs an engineer's design and building approval. Rules vary, so check with the council or a building certifier before you order.
