Composite Sleepers and Posts

Composite sleepers and posts are an engineered, lightweight alternative to concrete and natural timber for a retaining wall. Made from fibre reinforced polymer (FRP), they will not rot, are resistant to moisture and termites, and are easier to handle on sites with tight access. Explore the range below, pick your colours and sizes, and check stock before you start your retaining wall project.

Lightweight handling

Far lighter than concrete, making each sleeper quicker and safer to lift.

Low maintenance

No rot, no termites and no staining or sealing, unlike timber.

Long term durability

Engineered materials built for Australian conditions, including moisture and UV.

Modern aesthetics

A sleek appearance in colours that blend with modern landscaping.

Choose the right product

Composite or concrete: which to pick.

Both are durable wall products. The choice comes down to the site, the height of the walls and who will install them. Composite sleepers prove their worth where access is poor or lifting gear is not available. Concrete has the widest range of engineered heights. Keep the design of your wall in mind either way.

A composite sleeper has its own load limits and is not a like-for-like swap for concrete. In Queensland, walls over 1m high, or walls carrying a load, generally need an engineer's design and council approval. Drainage behind the wall is essential for every material.

What are composite sleepers made of?

Our composite sleepers are fibre reinforced polymer (FRP): glass fibre set in resin. That composition gives a strong, lightweight product. It is not the timber and plastic blend used in composite decking.

Are composite sleepers as strong as concrete?

FRP has high strength for its weight, but its performance in a wall depends on the design. Each product has limits on wall height and load. We can provide the supplier's engineering information for your engineer or certifier.

Where can composite sleepers and posts be used?

They are versatile. They are suitable for a low retaining wall, garden beds, garden edging and other landscaping projects, and ideal where concrete is hard to get onto the site. They suit homeowners, landscapers and builders.

How do you install a composite sleeper wall?

Step by step, the work is the same as a concrete sleeper wall: set the posts in concrete, slot in the sleepers, then add drainage and backfill. Lighter pieces make installation quicker, and the result is a clean, modern wall. For safety, wear eye and dust protection if you need to cut FRP.

How do composite sleepers compare with natural timber?

Timber rots, attracts termites and needs staining or sealing to last. Composite sleepers need none of that. Dirt and mould wash off with water. For longevity, we go by the supplier's warranty and do not promise a number of years beyond it.

How do I find prices and lead times?

Each product shows its price including GST, with stock and lead time. Add sleepers and posts to your cart for a quote on the whole project. If you need more information, contact us and we will find the answer with the supplier.
