Composite Sleepers
Composite sleepers are fibre reinforced polymer (FRP) sleepers for a composite retaining wall or raised garden bed. They are lightweight, will not rot or warp, and are resistant to termites and weathering, which makes them easier to install than heavy concrete sleepers. Pick your length and colour below and check stock availability before you purchase.

Choose the right product
Composite, concrete or timber sleepers?
Each of the traditional materials has its place. Composite is ideal where weight and access are the problem. Remember that strength and wall height limits differ for every composite material, so check the design before you set your heart on one.
Retaining wall calculator| Consider | Composite sleepers | Concrete sleepers | Timber sleepers |
|---|---|---|---|
| Weight | Lightweight | Heavy | Moderate |
| Rot and termites | Not affected | Not affected | Affected over time |
| Maintenance | A wash | A wash | Treating and replacing |
| Wall height | To the supplier's engineering | The widest range | Low walls |
Note: comparable does not mean interchangeable. A composite sleeper has its own span and height limits. It is important to ensure the posts, sleepers and footings all come from one design.

Delivery, lead times and logistics
Delivery
Composite sleepers are long loads delivered by truck. Tell us about narrow access, steep driveways or overhead obstructions. Unloading equipment is not automatically included.
Lead time
Usually delivered in 2–10 business days. We confirm the date with you before you pay.
Freight is priced to your delivery suburb for most metro areas, or will be confirmed with you before payment.
Delivery and pick up options are shown on each product. Wait for our confirmation before arranging transport or attending for pick up.
What are composite sleepers made of?
Ours are fibre reinforced polymer: glass fibre set in resin. They are not made from recycled materials, and we do not make eco friendly claims for them. What the product does offer is durability at a low weight.
How high can a composite retaining wall go?
The limit comes from the supplier's engineering for each product. In Queensland, walls over 1m, or walls carrying a load such as a fence or driveway, generally need an engineer's design.
How do I install composite sleepers?
Step by step: set the posts in concrete in the ground, let it cure, then slide the sleepers in from the top. There are no bolts. A sleeper can be cut to length at the end of a run. Wear eye and dust protection when you cut. The light weight is a real saving in time.
Are they good for a raised garden bed?
Yes. They suit a raised garden bed or a low wall in a backyard, and they create a clean edge. If you love the look of timber but not the upkeep, they are worth a look. Matching plinths are optional.
How long do composite sleepers last?
They are durable: no rot, no termites. A hard impact can still mark the surface. For longevity, we go by the supplier's warranty and will not promise a number of years into the future.
Do you deliver to the Gold Coast?
Yes. We deliver to the Gold Coast, Brisbane and the Sunshine Coast. If you are interested, send an enquiry with a photo of the site and a list of items. We review it and come back with a price. Prices shown are everyday prices, not a sale.
